{"id":1102,"date":"2023-07-13T17:53:51","date_gmt":"2023-07-13T17:53:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lwcb.ca\/noticeboard\/?p=1102"},"modified":"2023-07-13T17:55:08","modified_gmt":"2023-07-13T17:55:08","slug":"2023-07-13-level-forecast-and-lake-of-the-woods-outflow-reductions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lwcb.ca\/noticeboard\/2023\/07\/13\/2023-07-13-level-forecast-and-lake-of-the-woods-outflow-reductions\/","title":{"rendered":"2023.07.13 Level Forecast and Lake of the Woods Outflow Reductions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Conditions in the Winnipeg River drainage basin over the last month have been abnormally dry and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lwcb.ca\/pdf\/10-DayInflowReport.pdf\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.lwcb.ca\/pdf\/10-DayInflowReport.pdf\">inflows<\/a> to the Lake of the Woods, Lake St. Joseph and Lac Seul are all at or less than the 5th percentile. Precipitation for the month of June across the basin has been approximately half of the normal amount, and even less around Lac Seul and Lake St. Joseph (see map below). The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncei.noaa.gov\/access\/monitoring\/nadm\/maps\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.ncei.noaa.gov\/access\/monitoring\/nadm\/maps\">North American Drought Monitor<\/a> is also indicating abnormally dry to moderate drought conditions for this area.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"587\" height=\"691\" src=\"https:\/\/lwcb.ca\/noticeboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1103\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lwcb.ca\/noticeboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/image.png 587w, https:\/\/lwcb.ca\/noticeboard\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/image-255x300.png 255w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 587px) 100vw, 587px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The current level of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/lwcb.ca\/pdf\/LakeoftheWoods.pdf\">Lake of the Woods<\/a>&nbsp;is 322.86 m (1059.3 ft), a 20<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;percentile level for this time of year. The average lake level decreased by 6 cm (2 in) over the past week and is expected to continue to decrease by approximately another 6 cm over the next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response to these low inflows and to maintain storage over the summer, further outflow reductions are scheduled for next week (similar to this week). Lake of the Woods outflow will be reduced as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>350 m<sup>3<\/sup>\/s on Monday, July 17<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>300 m<sup>3<\/sup>\/s on Wednesday, July 19<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>250 m<sup>3<\/sup>\/s on Friday, July 21<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Each of these outflow reductions will cause the Winnipeg River water level to drop by approximately:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>11 cm (4 in) below the Norman Dam<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>5 cm (2 in) above the Dalles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>no change at Minaki<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The current level of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/lwcb.ca\/pdf\/LacSeul.pdf\">Lac Seul<\/a>&nbsp;is 355.96 m (1167.8 ft), a 25<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;percentile level for this time of year. The lake level increased by 3 cm (1 in) over the past week and is expected to increase by approximately 3 to 5 cm (1 to 2 in) over the next week. Lac Seul authorized outflow is 100 m<sup>3<\/sup>\/s. There will be a temporary outage at Ear Falls and Manitou Falls generating stations, between July 15 to 17, which will result in a temporary decrease in outflows during this time.
