ANNUAL CHANGES IN WATER LEVEL ON LAKE OF THE WOODS

QUESTION:  Are the annual changes in water level greater now than they used to be?
ANSWER:  The annual variation in water level on Lake of the Woods was generally less in the 1980's and 90's than it had been through the 1950's, 60's and 70's. The greater variability seen since 2000 may be a return to the larger variation seen in the past, due to a return to more normal variability in the weather, or may be the start of a trend to even more variability due to climate change.
